Stealing art? Rescuing a kitten? Finding treasure?

It's breakfast time here in Jenworld. Bananas, yogurt, chocolate milk, and homemake pancakes. We're listening to an old U2 album and "Mysterious Ways" is playing at this moment, which is appropriate considering the following:

Graceful has compiled another one of her planning lists. This one is "skills she needs to be prepared for anything":
  • archery (checked)
  • horse-back riding (checked)
  • fire-making (checked --WTF?!)
  • map-memorizing
  • world history
  • old-fashioned skills
  • rope-climbing
  • agility courses
  • Morse code
When asked, Graceful admitted that while she has never actually made fire, she's pretty sure she can do it.

As for the rest, I'm not altogether sure what she has planned, but I'm keeping a close eye on her.

Looks like a Girl Scout list. Just guessing.

Does she watch Survivor by any chance? Are any relatives leaving her acreage in the Rocky Mountains? Does she ever sigh wistfully and wish for the good ole days..;p

I think you'll be awfully glad to have that one about, should you ever be caught in a calamity!

It sounds to me like she's been reading some 12th century historical fiction! Maybe this is all research for the great novel she's going to write.

What exactly are 'old-fashioned skills' ???

That list cracked me up!

You have to tell us what old fashioned skills are. Like, making the drink, or what?

heh heh, she's pretty sure she can make a fire. I'm dying here.

if she asks for a swiss army knife then i would suspect that she is studying to become the next macgyver

Morse code? Maybe she'll realize a cell phone is much more effective. Hopefully this realization will not come for several years though!

Old fashioned skills? Um....would this entail cooking? (which would necessarily have to come after fire-making).

I can't wait to find out what "old-fashioned skills" she has in mind.

My favorite item from Graceful's list? World History. I'm not sure how knowing world history would help a survivalist, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.

Does she have 'The Daring Book for Girls'? Because it contains eerily similar - and good! - advice for women of all ages...

Gotta love that girl! I'm with everyone else, 'old fashioned skills' tickled me as well : )

This is *exactly* what my older son was like at that age. At present, he is an A student in a prestigious engineering school, an avid outdoorsman (included but not limited to mountain climbing, snow camping, snow shoeing, rock climbing and anything else dangerous for his mother to worry about.) He is also well read on an enormous variety of subjects, is a health nazi and can also cook and clean and generally take care of himself. Just giving you a slice of your girl's future : )

I love Grace. Sometimes I think she writes these just to get you thinking :)
But the fire making - checked off - yeah, I'd be looking into that.

I know I use my "old-fashioned skills" on a daily basis!
